Theraplay therapy

Theraplay is a form of treatment where the focus is in the interaction between the child and the parent. Other focus areas of Theraplay include: caring for the maternal bond, strengthening the child’s healthy self-esteem and building social skills.

Theraplay is short-term psychotherapy, where the parents are an active part of the therapy process. During the therapy session there is a flexible rotation between experimentalism and conversation.

During the Therapy sessions positive experiences of working together and of building interaction are provided to both the parent and the child. During the conversation sessions with the parents both the ability to support the child as well as the understanding of the child are aimed to be strengthened.

A Theraplay session can be executed with one or two therapists present; the model of one therapist is used for example when working with children under the age of 3.
