Dog-assisted Therapy

One of my services, Animal-Assisted Therapy (AAT) is a goal-directed intervention, where an animal (that fits a certain criteria) is an essential part of the treatment process. Animal-Assisted Therapy can be provided by a social and health care professional who has specialized in this field of therapy.

My therapy dogs René and Bardi work with me as my work companions in dog-assisted occupational therapy and dog-assisted psychotherapy. René has passed the feasibility test required for this position in 2014 and worked as my therapy dog since he was a puppy. In addition, I have myself studied at Jyväskylä’s University of Applied Sciences, where I attended the University’s course on Dog-Assisted Education and Rehabilitation in 2015. Bardi is studying to become a therapy dog side by side with René.

The use and goals of dog-assisted therapy are always agreed together with the client at hand and usually the dog-assisted therapy is conducted as a part of a whole therapy process.
